Spelunking

~
I am slightly... nowadays a bit more... claustrophobic, but I like caverns. Frank thinks I'm crazy or rather just plain weird for liking caverns. I am okay as long as am not in a really tight spot. The beauty of caverns cannot be captured in photographs. The formations are just amazing.

So today we're doing a bit of spelunking. Now that is a weird word for cave/cavern exploring.

For part of a day trip when we stayed at Cloudland Canyon State Park we visited Ruby Falls (please click to read the history of the falls/cavern) which is located at the foot of Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga Tennessee. This was a place that I had went as a teenager. I liked it and wanted to go back.

It seems like the purpose of the formations in this cavern is to make you hungry.

I wonder which kind of fish it is suppose to be.
"Rock" Fish :))

I'll take bacon anytime of day.

Maybe you can just eat one!

Okay... these people have an imagination. I'd like my steak to look a bit tender.

Then there is a beehive that makes you want honey.

Then there is a donkey's rear... that has nothing to do with food :-)

The falls is 145 feet. The day we went it was a bit puny. There had not been much rain. I couldn't get a good shot... too many people. They have a spotlight on the falls that rotates to different colors.

Another day we visited Sequoyah Caverns (please click to read the history of the caverns) located in Valley Head Alabama. This is a beautiful place to visit.

  1. My daughter and son-in-law took me to Carlsbad Caverns in the mid '90s. I was fine until I got to the end of the tour at the very bottom of the caverns and there was a small sign by the elevator that took you up and it said you are 850 feet below the surface of the earth, wow I could not wait to get out of there. The caverns however are beautiful

  2. Very cool photos, Zaroga! All the shapes are so interesting.

Up here in Wisconsin Dells on a tourist boat trip, one of the interests is a rock that looks like a grand piano about to fall all a cliff:) These things reminded me of that.

  3. Those are awesome pictures. I remember touring some caverns when I was a child. I always thought they were pretty neat. They do look like their names.

  5. Hi Zaroga,
Beautiful pictures! We went to Ruby Falls many years ago when our son was three. My husband had to carry him all the way!
