A Lazy Day

I'm being so lazy today. I guess its okay to be lazy now and again.

Yesterday was suppose to be my day for sheet washing. I didn't do it because of all our errands. So this morning I was going to wash the sheets. I went to get the sheets and DH had made the bed... so no way was I going to strip the bed of the sheets after him being so kind as to make the bed for me.

DH has been helping me out a lot lately. I'm having problems with my back. Way back in 1993 I herniated the disc that is bothering me now. I had surgery back then and the doctor took out just a slither of the disc to relieve the pressure on the nerve. Now the disc has all but disappeared and there is pressure on the nerve. My back throbs, my right hip, thigh, calf and foot have pain running down them. It hurts to stand long and is torture to walk very far. About two weeks ago I had two steroid injection in the disc area in hopes for relief of pain and to avoid surgery. I go to the doctor Monday and I'm sure plans will be made for another surgery.

Back to something a bit more pleasant... being I was being lazy today I did have time to edit pictures I took the other day. I took more pictures of another Elephant Ear Bloom. I used blue foam board for a back ground and no flash this time, so the picture is more subdued than the last I posted.

Another Elephant Ear Blossom

For dinner (our big midday meal) DH cooked hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. I heated up some canned baked beans to go with it and I fixed some baked sweet potato chunks. Just chunk some washed and dried sweet potatoes into 1 to 2 inch chunks. Mix a bit of oil with coarse ground pepper and cinnamon (I also added a bit of orange peel this time) in a large bowl. Add the sweet potato chunks and stir until well coated. Place on a jelly roll sheet (I line it with the no-stick foil). Bake in a 425° oven until tender and desired browness .. about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the chunks. Today I preheated the oven and used regular oven setting. When I use speed bake (some ovens call it convection) I don't preheat and the potatoes are usually done by time the pre-heat bell goes off. The amount of oil, pepper and cinnamon depend on how much you are making. For me and my husband I used two smallish potatoes (what we usually have for a baked potato serving... smaller than what they serve in restaurants). I used a couple of tablespoons of canola oil, but any oil can be used. I just did a few grinds on the black pepper grinder... set on a coarse setting and spinkled a bit of cinnamon in. There are enough hot dogs and burgers for tomorrow :-)

After dinner we watched tapes of the shows that we don't stay up late enough to watch. Then I've read blogs this afternoon. Such talented ladies on here.

I did make iced tea today. For some reason I've begun to like it. Things change...

  2. I know what you are going through to a big degree, I have a vertebrae stuck in the nerve socket in 91or 92
I went many a day not being able to even get out of bed. I went to chiropractors and massage therapy and acupuncture, They have me well enough to get by, But at any time I can do something as simple as pick some thing up or walk on a floor that changes levels to put my back out again.
I am glad you stopped by and added me to you followers. I look forward to getting to know you too,
    Have a wonderful week end.

  3. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I appreciate your sweet comments!

Your back sounds painful! I'm so sorry but thank the Lord, you have a sweet hubby to help you out! :)

I was just looking at some of your photos...Wow...they're awesome! You're very talented! What type of camera do you have? I love to play around, but I've got so much to learn on my digital SLR. I need to go to a class because I use it way too much on Auto! I have a Nikon 40X and it will do much more than what I do with it!

By the way, I had to laugh because yesterday was sheet washing day for me here at our house!

    Have a wonderful week!

  4. Thank you for visiting my blog! Yes, it's ok to relax once in awhile. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

  5. Sorry to hear you are having problems with your back. Sounds like an injection probably won't do the trick this time but I hope you can have it fixed without surgery again. Lots of rest may help but who can do that! Love your pictures. Take care of yourself and have a great week.

  6. What a nice lazy day, Zaroga! Good food, a beautiful picture of your flower (well except your back, so sorry about that). Hope you had a nice weekend!

  7. Thanks for stopping by on Friday for S&T! It's been another hectic weekend since we are now less than 3 weeks to our youngest daughter's wedding! I am hoping that I can once again, be more timely in visiting everyone's S&T offerings when the craziness is behind me!

I LOVE sweet potatoes! I make this Tropical Sweet Potato dish that my Hub loves. I add drained crushed pineapple to the mashed up potatoes, add some pumpkin pie spice and butter and then top it with a "streusel" of brown sugar chopped pecans, cinnamon, crushed corn flakes with some butter. It is YUMMY!
    Happy Monday!

PS I pick up the trunk this morning!

  8. What a beautiful flower. Your sweet potato recipe sounds good, I just might have to try it.
Have a good week I know I'm going to.

  9. Thanks everyone for the beautiful comments. I'll try and visit everyone soon.

Constance, your recipe sounds great. I will have try your version of the sweet potato casserole.

Thank you for visiting my Nook. Your comments are much appreciated.

Make it a great day!
