Change - Impatience - Fireproof

~

I thought it was time to revamp the blog design again. St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated next month, so I thought I would add a bit of green. I may change the header again, but I like the silo scene... it is serene and serenity is what I need :-) The background is a quilt square called Four Leaf Clover from Dawn's Quilting Clip Art. Dawn has created a lot of beautiful quilt squares.

We are going to get rather cold on Sunday... for us 45° for a high is cold :-)... the weather channel has 50° as the high. The local weather guy says maybe a flurry of snow... should we move further South :-) Anyway our temporary heater probably won't keep the house warm enough so Frank called around to find out who might have a propane heater in stock. He found one and he rode with me and went inside the place to buy it.

We then went by Sam's Club. Frank stayed in the car. It seemed like it took me forever there. We got there a couple of minutes before opening and of course their clock is slower than my watch. I'm waiting by the door and would be within the first few in the store. The lady came to unlock the door and had the wrong key. She waved us to go to the out door to go in... that puts me at about number 35 in line to get in. So I have to wait to get in and get a cart.

I found the things I need and get in the line where the lady is scanning with the hand-held scanner... that way I don't have to take the things out of my cart. At the next register a bottle of some sort of pills was spilled and the lady had to go and clean that up. I was next to in line... so I have to put my items on the belt and my purpose in getting in that particular line was defeated.

Then I try using Frank's debit card. I slid it through several times and it refused to be read. Then the cashier slid it several more times and it finally took. I punch in what I thought the pin number was and it said wrong pin... I'm sure I had it right, but by this time I just said I will use my credit card. My debit card was deactivated by the bank. You have to use your card within three months or it get deactivated and we didn't know that. I will have to get a new card and I just haven't felt like going by the bank.

For some reason Frank's right foot started bothering him and he descibes it like a stone bruise. He thought maybe his ankle brace would help the pain. Of course I couldn't find it. So after Sam's Club I stopped by the drug store and looked for one. They didn't have any in stock like he wanted.

I tend to get frustrated more easily these days :-( I wonder where all my patience went!

Wednesday we watched FIREPROOF. We both thought it was a pretty good movie. The movie was Filmed here in our hometown, Albany Georgia and surrounding communities. The scene at the railroad tracks was filmed in Shellman where my Mama lives. The place in the movie where the cross is we can't place where that is, but all the other places we recognize. Perhaps where the cross scene takes place is at one of the nearby plantations. We both recommend the movie. The makers have a blog about the movie at http://fireproofthemovie.blogspot.com/. I got lost in the blog just preparing this paragraph :-)

I finished my flowerbed project. In a month or so I will probably add more plants to the bed... we'll see.

This N' That

~

puppy

Isn't the puppy cute! I hope it brightened your day. It brightened mine.

Well, yesterday was doctor day again. I'm having pain in my shoulder and low neck. There is numbness in my left pinkie finger, the next finger and part of my hand. The doctor said the cause could be in any of several places along the nerve that runs from my finger to my neck. It was weird he pressed in an area near my wrist and my shoulder had a burning pain. First an injection of a a corticosteroid and a prescription for Medrol and if I'm not better by Friday I go back to see him. I can't seem to get over one thing before another part of me falls apart... but I will cope and take things as they come.

On a brighter notes...

We have been in a warm spell and a jonquil are blooming.... well it may be a daffodil, but Mama always called it jonquil. This flower is small and the leaves are thin... when I think of a daffodil I think of a large bloom and broader leaves. I'm not a horticulturist and only care that they bless my eyes with beauty :-)

The wind was probably blowing 20 mph when I took the picture. I thought if I waited until the wind died down there would be no flower left. Soon there will be more flowers and hopefully better pictures.

I want to tell you about a wonderful blog. It is called
Nalley Valley. The author of this blog is Mildred. She always has something interesting to talk about. You will be hooked on her blog in no time at all.

♪♪♪♪♪♪

We had a bit of stormy weather come through this morning. Nothing bad at our house, but about a mile up the road straight-line winds hit and took a few trees down and electricity out. It is almost 4 pm here and 64° and yesterday we were about 76°. Today is more of our normal temperature during the winter.

Well... time to get a little reading in.

Weather-

This week has been very warm... even for our Decembers. I think we hit 80° yesterday. At 1:30 pm we are at 75°. Tomorrow our weather will change. There is a 60% chance of rain. The high will be around 60° and the low around 30°. Then Monday it is suppose to be windy with a high of 52° and a low of about 29°. Tuesday's high will be around 58° and low of 41°. Christmas Eve we get warmer with a high of 68° and low of 43°... which is more like our winter temps.

Life and Remembering -

Life is getting better. I'm moving around easier. I just worry about Mama. Mama is getting confused when she is talking. I will stock it up to pain meds for now. She saw the surgeon this week and he said she seems to be healing fine. Mama tells me that her leg has swollen more again. I really haven't understood why she is having the swelling. She said she has increased her water pills. I tried to get her to get her family doctor visit sooner than the January 2nd appointment that she has.

I feel joy this time of year, but I also feel sadness. My thoughts turn to my Daddy that passed away in 2000. I do find joy in remembering him playing Christmas carols on his guitar and singing. I especially miss hearing him play and sing Silent Night. My sadness comes in knowing that he is only here in our hearts.

... brighter notes of my life. I got the carrot cake layers made and in the freezer. I have such a wonderful husband to help me out. Oh... I know he didn't read my post yesterday. Frank mixed sugar cookie dough up. The dough is in the fridge ready to bake. Now isn't that true love! The sugar cookies will get baked tomorrow.

As long as I can remember there has been sugar cookies in the cookie jar or can this time of the year. I said cookie can :-) At one time we had a huge lard tin that we painted and wrote COOKIES on. I made a lot of cookies back then. I'm not sure where we got the lard tin from because if we had bought the lard in that tin we would still be eating the lard. Frank was in the Army then so it might have been from the mess hall.

I did a bit of digging and found an old Polaroid picture. I wonder why we kept it. The picture was taken in December of 1971. I was somewhere between three and four months pregnant with our son and not the happiest camper... I had morning sickness from three months to end of pregnancy. I remember being frustrated. I had never frosted sugar cookies before. I cut out my own patterns for the cookies out of brown paper bags. You can see the large tin in the background with COOKIES written on it. I still have the green mixing bowl and the rolling pin. The handles are no longer on the rolling pin. I still have the green cake cover too. Remember when avocado green and harvest gold where the "in colors"? You can see my old checker-board cookbook sitting on top of the ice bucket. I still have the cookbook. We lived in a single-wide house trailer over in Bluff Creek Alabama then. I don't know why that counter is so messy. I usually kept it neat. Okay... go ahead and click on the picture for larger view.

It was fun remembering. The sugar cookies this time won't get frosted. These days I roll the dough into small balls in the palm of my hand and then place the balls of dough on cookie sheets... then I take a glass and dip the bottom of it in sugar and flatten the balls into nice rounds and bake. If I have any colored sugar around I might sprinkle the cookies with a bit before baking... a lot less frustrating :-)

One more thing to share today. A genealogy friend shares his grandmother's collection of Vintage Christmas Cards. I hope they brighten your day as you look at them.
